You talk to anyone outside who knows anything about South Norwood, they have this ridiculous impression of ‘downbeat town’ really… but it doesn't take away from what South Norwood is, and has been, and, as I say, still is. Still a lot going for it.
- Local Resident
This series of downloadable audio bus tours follows two routes crossing South Norwood, South East London. Local voices tell listeners about the area’s history, interweaving stories from the past with present day experiences.
Drawing on pedagogical research into situated learning and distributed learners, this project explores the creative potential of what it means to learn in, and through, location. Designed for both local residents keen to discover more about their area and tourists seeking unlikely destinations that look beyond world-renowned attractions, the tours offer the chance to dig deeper into improbable locations, showing there’s more to places than first appearances may indicate. Transport becomes not just a means of arrival, but the object of tourist interest in itself.
